At the start of 2016, three lonely artists released a WLTM callout for creative collaborators to embark on a six week labour of love. The Royal Standard invited (it’s all) Tropical to reveal the work born from these whirlwind romances. IT WAS A LORRA LORRA LAFFS.

Blind Date saw artist/curatorial collective (it’s all) Tropical play with ideas of collaboration and making when artists are paired up and commissioned to make new work without the potential to communicate through any visual means. Tropical artists Lindsey, Josef and Alfie released promotional videos with the hopes of attracting potential partners. They were paired respectively with Millington/Marriott, Caitlin and Uma by curator Rachel.

The works presented at The Royal Standard were the result of developing and constructing work both together and over a long distance where communications were limited. Blind Date examined both the necessity and the difficulties faced when developing work collaboratively.
