The Royal Standard Call Out For Trustees & Treasurer (22/23)

The Royal Standard (TRS) is Liverpool’s leading artist-led charity providing studio space  and opportunities for our region’s artistic talent. We are looking to recruit Trustees to help steer our organisation during an exciting period in its development. There are great opportunities for us to expand our reach and provide support for more of the artists we work with. We are looking for people to help us to maximise this potential so we can better deliver on our aims. Are you the person that can help lead this change?

As part of its commitment to developing artists careers, TRS  provides affordable studio space for 40 artist members who are regularly consulted and represented by our volunteer Artist Leads. We are looking to create a permanent paid role to support these volunteers and the charity’s activity. We are also looking to secure long term sustainable premises that better support our activities and ambition.

Our ideal candidates would have the skills and knowledge to help us achieve these milestones. People working in Fundraising,  HR, Legal, or with Project Management experience would add to the skillset of our current board members.  A background in the arts or understanding of artist-led practice is not necessary but an enthusiasm and interest in the visual arts is. However any experience in successfully taking charities through periods of investment and development would be welcome.

As an artist-led organisation we feel it is vital our Board of Trustees represents artists' voices that reflect the diversity of practice and experience of those artists we support. We currently have a good representation of artists on or working with our board. If as a practising artist you value artist-led networks and have any of the skills listed above, we would love to hear from you.

Treasurer

Key to our fiscal responsibility we require a treasurer to oversee our finances. The Treasurer will maintain a strategic focus on our financial resources and their management; working closely with the Chair, other Trustees and our auditors.

You will also lead a small finance committee to ensure all monies for multiple projects are accounted for and annual reports submitted. As a charity we have several different revenue streams some of which are restricted funds and grants.

TRS welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds and would love to hear from applicants who belong to groups underrepresented in the arts.

Key Commitments
-
The Board will meet on average 4 times per year and we would expect board members to attend a minimum of 2/3 meetings (in person ideally or virtually).
- Support our activities by attending events and exhibitions where possible.
- Act as an advocate for our organisation and its activities
- Be able to commit to a minimum 2 year term on our board
- All Trustee positions are voluntary and therefore unremunerated.

About The Royal Standard
The Royal Standard’s mission is to make Liverpool a great place for artists to practice. We do this by providing the city’s largest studio network but also by acting as a platform for emerging talent at a national and international level through exhibitions and exchanges and events. A big part of what we do is work with partners to achieve our mission. Some of the organisations we have worked with to provide opportunities for artists include Liverpool John Moores University, Liverpool Biennial, The Bluecoat, Newbridge Projects and critical writing journal The Double Negative. Community organisations we have worked with include Refugee Women Connect, WHISC and Blueroom. The Royal Standard formed in 2006 and became a registered charity in 2013.
